NON-PROFITS by Regina Herzlinger

“And the first connection that that Frances made was for people who had been looking at businesses to transfer those lessons to non-profits. The next big connection she made, is if she looked at the Girl Scouts, which was an extraordinarily well-managed organization, and she had turned it around. She was an example of change management.

To take the lessons out of that and apply them to businesses, that was pretty radical, that non-profits would have something that businesses could learn, and then of course, she got involved with the government and with the military and added a third leg to that stool about transference of ideas, about management among government, non-profit—now called social enterprise—and business organization. I think she was really pivotal to what now is accepted as commonplace, which is the emergence of departments of social enterprise within business schools”
