“It’s unbelievable. There she was, in her 70s starting a whole new career and again, it was done with this tremendous flair—and flair has an important component in leadership—certainly in her style of leadership. The union with Drucker was very important. He'd been an ally of hers from Girl Scouts days, and the idea to bring leadership consciousness to the nonprofit sector was very novel. And once again, she carried it off with incredible élan. It was more challenging than the Girl Scouts because the Girl Scouts, after all, had one very important component—they had money. They had a lot of money, and they could raise money through the cookie sales and they owned considerable real-estate. Leader to Leader [The Frances Hesselbein Institute] had (holds up sign for zero). So here's this woman in her middle 70s creating a hugely successful and influential enterprise, really out of nothing.”
