“JC: Leader to Leader [The Frances Hesselbein Institute]: your organization now.
FH: Yes.
JC: I’m sure you are thinking ahead to what it grows into beyond you. What is the mission of Leader to Leader [The Frances Hesselbein Institute] and how will you hope its mission will make the world better forever?
FH: Well, we have a short, powerful mission statement. You can’t know Peter Drucker and have a mission statement that doesn’t fit on a T-shirt.
JC: Right.
FH: So, ours is to “strengthen the leadership of a social sector” and then I quietly add “and their partners in business and government” and everything is focused on leadership.
How do we strengthen leadership of this indispensable sector? We are not the junior members with business and government, we are the indispensable partner.
So, how do we strengthen the leadership of the social sector? Because, as Peter says, “it is not business; it is not government, it is the social sector that may yet save the society”, so this is big picture.
So everything focuses on ‘How do we help leaders lead?’”
