“To promote employee ownership and discipline, a routine was established in the factories in China. At the beginning of each workday, team leaders stand inside painted squares to give a briefing on that day's work and relay any news to the employees.

At the end of each workday, some workers will be called to stand on the footprints inside the squares to criticize themselves for making mistakes, apologize, and share corrective actions taken during the day or to share some of their good work.

When this practice was instituted in the South Carolina plant, the employees objected. They were listened to and policies changed. The practice was modified to reflect a different time and culture—innovation was recognized daily.”
