“Going directly to the customer via Internet or what have you, maybe the way in which a P&G can regain control which you have largely lost, not you, everybody.
The demographics on the one hand and the technology on the other may radically change, and I don't know what this could mean in terms of promotion and marketing, what it could mean in terms of establishing brands, where the retail chain is going more and more towards trying to develop its own brands, and it now has the size and the muscle, but also the credibility.
I was up at Pebble Beach on Tuesday and ran a seminar, and one of the other people there was Dave Powers, and as you know, I have known him for many years, and five years ago, he and I came to the conclusion that new cars will increasingly be bought over the Internet, the dealer will only deliver them.
And none of the automobile companies believed us, by the way, and today, according to Powers, passenger cars, which are 50% of the passenger market. Passenger cars, of that 50%, more than one-third is bought over the Internet.”
