“Minor disagreements have kind of become a pebble in the shoe.”

“Minor disagreements have kind of become a pebble in the shoe. You know, it’s not serious but as long as you have it in the shoe, you can’t think of anything else. And so joint ventures come to grief over small issues and then I have learned one doesn’t let it fester. I have learned to put—right away—an outside impartial person in both sides, no one respect as an arbiter. I know if you have a company like P&G and there is a disagreement between two of your departments or divisions, somebody higher up can say, ‘this is it,’ and if you don’t do that, you are likely to spend all your time on fighting over allocating a bottle of draftsman’s ink. You know, the smaller the stake, the more bitter the fight.”
