TEACHERS by Peter F. Drucker

“What we need are not ‘better teachers.’ Indeed we cannot hope to get ‘better teachers’ in quantity. In no area of human endeavor have we ever been able to upgrade the human race. We get better results by giving the same people the right tools and by organizing their work properly. We need to ‘learn smarter.’

It is not the fault of the educators that they do not know what to teach future teachers, just as it was not the fault of the professors of medicine at the University of Paris in 1700—the doctors whom Moliére so ruthlessly castigated—that they did not teach their students how to diagnose and cure patients.

Sick people demand to be treated. People who need knowledge demand to be taught. All one can do is try, even if one knows virtually nothing.”
