ASIA'S VALUE SHIFT by Adrian Woolridge

“There are two very interesting things going on in Asia—a society that wasn’t keen on shareholder value is now discovering it has value.

State-owned companies want managers and external metrics with a long-term perspective. They are creating hybrid systems—shareholder model and patience.

The same thing is happening with family-run companies. For example, Tata is paying more attention to shareholder returns. Tata did so with Jaguar Land Rover when they took it over and have done very well. They are getting the best of both worlds.”
