BRAZILIAN CAPITALISM by Alexander Triebnigg

“As a student and observer, what is happening in Brazil is increasingly important for us as it impacts the way we do and can do business.

- State capitalism: Government said they want to support the national industry, which is owned by Brazil. Capitalism is too important for us to leave it to the capitalist.

Suddenly, out of 200 million Brazilians, between 40 and 60 million moved out of utter poverty into the middle class and the emerging middle class.

This is important because they suddenly become part of the economy; the energy, the drive and the capitalist spirit that very poor people have in Brazil. Europeans forget that poor people don’t want to be poor.

- Order and progress: We want to have progress but we want to have progress with order. We don’t want the roller cycles of U.S. and Europe.

- What I learned today: Tweaking. The government in Brazil is tweaking the capitalist system.

Tweaking- if you want to be successful in the 6th largest economy of the world with a GDP of $2.4 trillion (and potential to grow). . .

Some large companies are investing there and have a seat at the table – it is a great experiment in tweaking.”
