PRODUCT GLOBALIZATION by Peter F. Drucker

“When you package something in Germany, you have German Packaging Laws, your literature beginning with the print on the can or the bottle has to be in German. While both Germany and France use kilograms and so on, the weight and the volume are expressed differently. In that sense, the nation state is still there and you probably couldn’t sell soap made in France in Germany unless it has a proper German typeface.

These are minor—these are nuisances, but it’s a major nuisance. . . When it comes to building a new plant, it can employ 20 to 100 people, the subsidy is in terms of a national location with a tax, but when it comes to what that plant then produces, the plant is a shipping point. . . This is not easy to manage.”
