“When a values-driven leader's actions are successful. . .”

“When a values-driven leader’s actions are successful in institutionalizing values in a company, the organization becomes the focus of loyalty instead of the leader. While subordinates have a sense that their accomplishments are their own, the leader's role in guiding the company becomes less distinct to the observer. As Lao-tsu, the ancient Chinese philosopher, said: ‘To lead people, walk behind them. For the best leaders, people do not notice their existence. When the best leader's work is done, the people say, ‘We did it ourselves!’”
